The Original Big Wheel Tricycle

If you have ever wondered how this whole story about Big Wheel Tricycles started, you essentially have to know about The Original Big Wheel. Somewhere around 1969, it was the Louis Marx and Company that first produced a 'Big Wheel Tricycle'. Before this, all the tricycles that there were, had 3 wheels that were more or less similar in size.

The Big Wheel Tricycle

The specialty about the Big Wheel Tricycle was that, its front wheel was out of proportionately larger than the two rear wheels. In fact, the two rear wheels were very much smaller than those of a regular trike. Because of this very small size of the two rear wheels, the seat was set very low and the rider's legs were almost parallel to the ground while he/she sat inches above the ground. Because of this, the point of gravity was also very low which meant that it was extremely safe. It was almost impossible to trip one of these things.

The parents liked the Big Wheel Tricycle because it was safe and the kids loved them because it had this really 'cool' out of this world like appearance. In addition, because of the extra low seat, the speed of the ride as well as every bump on the floor ground was exaggerated. The kids just loved this. The Big Wheel became an instant hit and was extremely popular in the 1970s. It is this very first Big Wheel Tricycle that is commonly referred to as the Original Big Wheel today.

However, since of 2001, the production of the original big wheel was ceased. That doesn't matter today because there are many substitute big wheel tricycles hanging around today ranging from all plastic to all metal to rubber tires to plastic tires to cheaper trikes to very expensive trikes. While there are big wheels for kids, there are also big wheel tricycles for adults. There are also big wheel tricycles for boys as well as 3 wheelers for girls. They also come in various colors. Blue, Green, Pink, Red and Yellow are a few examples.

There is also an 'Original Big Wheel' being re-manufactured today, however customer reviews are mixed. Some people say that their kids are having a blast while others say it's the most flimsiest ever plastic tricycle that they have seen and felt and that they can not recommend it. There are also issues like the manufacturer 'forgetting' to ship all the necessary parts or even problems in assembly! Either way, there is no need to worry because there are a ton of other Big Wheel Tricycles available for you to choose from if you don't like the Original Big Wheel!
